CTSI and FAAB Training are working in partnership with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) to deliver a funded programme for building LA capability, with Product Safety and Legal Metrology training to all local authority practitioners throughout the UK. It is offered free-of-charge to local authority practitioners.

Clothing Safety & Compliance: Flammability, Standards & Best PracticeThis training is designed for Trading Standards professionals and regulatory enforcement officers who need to understand clothing safety regulations. It is also suitable for those looking for a refresher on key legislation and enforcement practices. Trainer: Hannah Forbes CPPD: 2 hours Learning outcomes: By the end of this course, participants will: Gain an understanding of key regulations governing clothing safety, including flammability standards and requirements for children's clothing. Learn about labelling requirements, testing, and relevant standards. Develop knowledge of enforcement powers and best practices for identifying unsafe products. Understand the common risks associated with clothing and textiles, including strangulation and entrapment hazards. Capacity Serving MeasuresThe course is aimed at trainees or recently qualified Inspectors. It will also be useful for other inspectors who may need a refresher. It will look at all of the weights and measures legislation that applies to bar environments including spirit measuring instruments, as well as capacity serving measures and also consider the Intoxicating Liquor Order 1988 relating to the requirements of how you sell spirits, beer and wine. Learning outcomes: A full understanding of the legislation that governs the control of equipment and intoxicating liquor supplied in bars and public houses. Technical Documentation: From Theory to PracticeThis training is for Trading Standards professionals who review technical documentation, including test reports and Declarations of Conformity, and wish to develop their practical skills and confidence. It is suitable for those new to this work, needing a refresher, or seeking practical tips to enhance their assessment skills. Measuring Instruments DirectiveThis course is aimed at those Inspectors of Weights and Measures that are looking for a reminder and updates on those instruments that are covered by the Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 and the various amendments that have changed it since the UK’s departure from the EU. There will be a discussion on the various types of automatic weighing instruments, liquid fuel measuring instruments, capacity serving measures and material measures of length. This training will be taking place in person at CTSI Head Office in Basildon. Learning outcomes: The delegate will have a more detailed understanding of the instruments covered under the Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 and the requirements when they are placed on the market or put into service. Weighbridge Testing in compliance with NAWI Regulations 2016This course is aimed at those candidates that have begun the S73 Examination to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures and are looking for practical guidance and experiences on how this should be done. This training will be taking place at Axle Weight Technology Ltd (Axtec) in Runcorn. Delegates are required to attend both days. Learning outcomes: This course will give the candidates a good training on both the theory and practice of the verification of large capacity non-automatic weighing instruments. It will include a classroom element with a discussion of the principles of testing a large capacity weighing instrument and a practical experience of doing this. An Introduction to the Packaged Goods Regulations 2006The course is an introduction to the Packaged Goods Regulations 2006. It will consider some of the statistical principles necessary to understand the Regulations and we will have a detailed look at each of them and what they mean to an Inspector of Weights and Measures. There will be an explanation of how to carry out a practical weights and measure check and the paperwork that can be used for this. Trainer: Ian Turner CPPD: 5 hours Learning outcomes: This course will give a good outline of some of the statistical concepts necessary to understand the Packaged Goods Regulations and will undertake a detailed understanding of each regulation and place it into the context of our work.
